Paul,
There's no scope tube, there's an LCD display.
Older displays (made in Japan) will get blue lines eventually.
This process will proceed until the whole display is unreadable.
New second generation displays are available. Call or wirite Virgil Parker
from Icom UK.

This gentleman knows all about this subject.
Also check previous posts on the Icom reflector, on the yahoo IC756 group
