Dan,
Its been along time. I found this on mods.dk. I would make sure you know
what you have in the memories ie: frequencies, tones and offsets before
doing this. Generally they will not be erased but in case they are you can
reprogram them.
:"Hello Folks.
The mods for W 31 IS NOT AVAILABLE OR DOES NOT WORK WITH ALL THE RADIOS.
The Rx MODS IS IN THE KEYBOARD.NO hardware change is required.
* Note all memories.
* HOLD VFO and POWER ON.
* This will give a partial reset.
* Now the Rx is open from 50Mhz to 299.99Mhz in VHF.. 301Mhz to 999.99
Mhz in UHF
* The mod can be confirmed.. check if you have "PLACE" ON THE - set- menu.
AS USUAL WITH THE DISCLAIMER....
GOOD LUCK vu3vtk"
I forgot look for a new feature to be added in the set mode called PL, that
sets the amount of direct digit entry for the keypad. Set it to 100 using
the tuning knob. It will only show when you have successfully opened the
receiver. i don't remember a jumper being required to be removed as one
says on mods.dk. BUT in that time frame Icom did require diodes and jumpers
to be removed to open the receivers. I think the W31A was one of the first
without that requirement. If all fails call Icom on Monday, I am sure they
have it in their files. If it really gets messed up then do the CPU reset.
IC-W31A - Full reset: hold [A] & [*] & [MONI] buttons and turn the radio
on. Partial reset: hold [A] button and turn the radio on. The partial does
not erase the memories where the full does.
