Your description makes me wonder if there
is something amiss in the setup of your AGC
threshold.  I assume that you have tried to
get satisfaction from Icom??

Believe me, the MKIIG is picking up more noise.  Signals that can be heard
clearly on the other radios tested are completely buried in the noise on the
706.  Good suggestion, though.

Doug, have you put a calibrated signal generator
into/onto your 706 to see how the S-meter
calibration compares with the other rigs?  You
may not actually have more noise, just a meter
that reads much higher on  ANY  signal!
