I never gave it a thought the Astron had the ability to control the output 
current.
Low current can be an issue. The IC-765 and other products that used the 
internal switching supply had a low current issue sometimes, due to a 
cracked solder joint on the current shunt resister.

power possibly being a source of the problem.  That's when I looked at the 
Astron and noticed the amp control had been moved.  Duh....so simple, yet 
so complex.  ;-)
