[ICOM] Toshiba LCD

Gary , Niether the CRT,s or the unit came from Icom. There has been a
gentleman on ebay selling these replacement CRT,s for a while now. He has a
company that specializes in CRT,s. I believe thats is what this unit does. I
contacted Icom a couple of years ago and they said that one should budget
around $1200.00 for the changeout. The parts were around $800.00. The OM on
ebay was doing the changeout for a little over $500.00 plus shipping both
ways so one would probably be out of around $600.00 total. I know that some
prefer the CRT over the LCD and its true for the other way but I like both
of them and would like one of my IC-781,s to match my IC-R9000L. The last
R9000L that I purchased was still in its unopened box. I purchased it from a
contractor doing contract work in NYC for the US Government. He stated that
his contract originally called for him to install and maintain 10
IC-R9000L,s but the contract was cut short at 8 units and being that he had
purchased 10 of them he had 2 left over to sell. His sister called him and
said that she wanted to buy one of these for her husbands birthday in a
couple of weeks so he sold one to her. Well one week later 9/11 hit and her
husband worked in the World Trade Center. His employer cut off his paycheck
after a month or so and she needed to sell the IC-9000L to help with the
household. A note regarding this was attached to the 9000L,s box. Just a
short note on this wonderful Thanksgiving that most of us are having. I want
to thank everyone on this reflector for the great service and information
that they provide . 73 Happy Holidays , de Randy N5WV
