Good morning all,
Quick update on the IC-2KL. I was looking to replace the main P/S
capacitor. Icom did not have any.
The cap is (WAS) 47,000 uf. It is no longer available from Icom. I ended
up ordering a 64,000 uf cap from RS Electronics in Atlanta. (770-242-0520).
It was $52.77, and the CDE part number is DCMC643M063CC2B.
I took it all to work where I have a really good cap tester. I let the cap
settle in for a few days first. It was in great condition. When I opened
the P/S, I just replaced ALL the electrolytics. Tested the power supply.
The extra capacitance didn't seem to matter, it all works fine.
The old cap, which was showing signs of white powder at the vent, tested at
24,000 uf. This is about half of what it should be. If you have been
running a 2KL for a while, it might be a good idea to check your cap. If it
is bad, consider replacing all the electrolytics while you have it open.
Just got off of an 80m net where they said my 781/2KL sounded as good as
ever. Another successful repair.
Y-all have a great day.
