Duane,

The 275H as I remember does have SWR protection built in. But that circuit 
is ment to protect the radio in an event such as you experienced. It is not 
ment to protect it from daily use into a high SWR condition.
The 275H tries to transmit at full power then folds back into protection 
when it reads a high SWR. But the more you operate that way the more stress 
you place on the final amplifier section.
If you are using the Icom AG25 preamp the connectors are on the bottom of 
the amplifier. No water should enter the preamplifier if it is mounted 
correctly in the mast.

I would, as it seems you already are doing, get the antenna repaired so the 
SWR stays as low as possible, below 2:1. I think it will be fine then to 
operate the 275H once antenna repairs are made.
