[ICOM] Icom T90A Handheld - use during charging?

I support Sports Car rally events and the MS society fundraisers and several others during the year and have just replaced an older HT with the T90A.  I question using the HT in either receive or transmit while charging as it shows 11.2 volts on the screen on power on while charging.  The normal "full charge" reading is 8.2 volts.  Is the full 11.2 really reaching the radio or just the charging circuit?  Buying additional batteries and the fast charger which are both very expensive could be avoided if it could be charging at times during use.
