The IC-27A has a multiplexed display and each segment (a through g) has a
current limiting resistor in the vicinity of the 4511 driver chip.
I've seen these increase in value (from the nominal 39 ohms) and it will
lower the current, and therefore the brightness, of the display segment.
However, the symptom is that the same segment is less bright in each
digit. Is this what you see? Or is an entire digit dim? Before I
condemned a digit, I'd make sure the digit drive is good.
