on all the
DC and signal lines that plug into the Icom transceiver (other than
antenna). Wonder if anyone else has done that? A separate minibox with
appropriate connectors and MOVs might be the best way to go."
I have long (15 years or more?) done that with all AC lines into all my
equipment, as well as rotor and switch-box control lines, and though I live
on a ridge top in PA, I have yet to have a problem with either the home
entertainment stuff or the ham radio or computer stuff. Everything has
glitch grabbers on it. And I use both MOV's on the AC and control lines and
the little gas cartridges on the coax's. 2 in series from center to shield
does it. And the tower mast is bonded to the tower with flex strap and each
tower section is boned to the next with tinned flex strap. And then to a "Y"
ground (4 equidistant 8' rods, 8' apart in a Y shape. ) And the coax shields
are all bonded to the tower leg before dropping to the ground to come into
the house. Check Polyphaser and others for some great protection ideas.
