I purchased a new 706MK2G also at dayton and mine DOES NOT transmit outside
the band edges. And does give a tone when leaving the band edges example it
will transmit on 20 M down to 13.900 but as I go below that it beeps and no
longer transmits..

Subject: [ICOM] new 706MKIIG
I bought a new MKIIG at dayton, got around to setting it up this
week...going in car... played for a while, everything worked as it should.
Noticed the rig had no beep at the band edges, went to menu and reset the
proper item... still no beep. did a full reset, etc and tried again... same
result. Had the rig on 18.170 just past the band edge, happen to key the rig
and off it went ,full out.
I proceeded to check the radio on all other bands...same thing.
This rig operates just like my TR-7 ,any place any frequency it transmitts.
I preceeded to call Icom service in cailf. and talked to their tech, who
said.......
Since march all the mkIIg's were comming into the states this way and
1. you no longer have the band edge beep.
2. they are open on transmitt ,any where the vfo goes.
My question is ... is this icom tech full of BS or do I have a radio that
was suppose to go to another market.. this one has all the auto repeater
functions working fine.which leads me to beleive this was a us bound radio.
I would be greatful for anyone that can shed more light on what is going
on with my MKIIG.
thanks for reading.
