I think you are confusing the R7000 with the IC-745, IC-271 and IC-471 radios. I have replace the memory board in a couple of these radios with the board made by the Itialian gentleman and was very pleased with the price, performance and quality. I don't remember his name or call, a seach should find him. The problem with the above radios is that they loose their mind when the battery goes, and will not receive anything at all. The R-7000 is not like that.
I also have an R-7000 and never changed the battery. It spends most of it's time turned off and I am amazed that it still stores memories. I gues it's time will come.

My R7000 is long overdue to have this done. It's an early one so must be
close to 20 years old.
Any advice out there before I get on with it? I know of the need to keep
the supply up to the CPU thru the changeover, but if there are any useful
ideas on the whole process I'd like to hear them.
