[ICOM] Icom "Dual Watch" feature and the Balance Control

In one of the earlier QST product reviews-either for
the 781 or the 775-there is a very good explanation of
how the dual watch architecture is implemented in the
Icom radios. Given what was said in the review, it
didn't sound possible to split off the audio into left
and right channels.
I just got an Icom 756 (original) about 2 months ago.
It is my first radio with dual receive capabilities,
and that feature is awesome for DXing. The balance
control may not be as good as being able to send each
receiver to a different ear, but it still beats the
heck out of just single receive.
