[ICOM] Icom "Dual Watch" feature and the Balance Control

The recent comment from Cal about Icom's Dual Watch and the goofy Balance
Control prompts me to ask the following questions:
The Dual Watch audio would be much more valuable if it were in stereo.
Aren't there actually two separate {though low level} audio signals on the
back-end of that Balance Control? Connecting those signals to an external AF
stereo amplifier, you should be able to hear the DX station in one ear and
the pile-up in another.
Has anyone tried that?
