[ICOM] What does "G" mean

When Icom upgraded the 706MKII it became a MKIIG
instead of a MKIII. When Kenwood upgraded the 570,
they became a 570DG or a 570SG. So what does the "G"
mean? And why did they choose that letter? Yaesu
seemed to have chosen the D letter instead, I assume
for "Deluxe". And why didn't the Icom 756PROII become
an Icom 756PROIIG?

As you can tell, I have too much time on my hands to
ask such things. Wish the sunspot cycle would peak
soon again.
