[ICOM] IC-7800 vs Rohde & Schwarz EK2100L

Hi Randy,

The correct model number for the transceiver is XK2100L. The XK2100L is
designed to operate in extremely hostile RF environments, such as a naval
ship's wireless office or a military CP/comm. centre. The corresponding
receiver is the EK-2000, which can be converted into an XK2100 (transceiver)
or GX2900 (receiver-exciter) by replacing the PSU with an exciter and PA
board.

The R&S rigs achieve very high dynamic range and IP3 at the expense of
sensitivity (0.4 uV CW, BW=300Hz and 1.1uV SSB, BW=2.7kHz). This is not all
that great compared to an amateur transceiver.

If you ever need spare parts or service, you can expect to pay a lot. That
said, with R&S you are really flying first-class.

You can download spec sheets for the R&S 2000 family from the website:

http://www.rohde-schwarz.com/

This will enable you to compare at least some "numbers".

Cheers for now, 73,
Adam VA7OJ/AB4OJ

Subject: [ICOM] IC-7800 vs Rohde & Schwarz EK2100L

Hello Group , I have a chance to purchase a Rohde & Schwarz EK2100L HF
Transceiver. As of most "Utility Transceivers/Receivers it does not have all
of the "Creature Comforts" that are engineered into amateur radios. This
radio cost as much used as a new IC-7800 does. Is there anyone on the
reflector that has operated both radios and can give me a comparison between
the two. I plan on purchasing a 7800 after it has been on the market for a
while just to check for any mods , rev-levs or Pro's but I am curious of how
one would stack up against the other. This question is not for making a
purchasing decision , its just for thought. 73 , Randy N5WV
