Hmmm.. that is interesting.  I am using that exact antenna, with RG-58.  I
have not tried it much on the ham bands, but on MARS frequencies I have been
loud and clear into nets from Indiana to Washington State from here in El
Paso.  I cannot imagine it being much better because of the coax.  Perhaps
your "58" had a flaw in it?
