Though i don't remember a thermal cutout in the BP-3 pack i can say that 
pack is a trickle charge only pack. Even when placed into the BC-30 or 
BC-35 the holes on the bottom only allows for a 50 mA recharge current and 
it will never shut off either Icom rapid charger when done. It still takes 
15 hours to fully recharge in either Icom rapid charger.
