[ICOM] New Pro III - Hold On Guys!

In a very, very weak moment, possibly brought on by the number of new drugs
that I am on, I was going to order a new Onion but the attitude of the Ten
Tec people with their 'holier than thou" preface totally turned me off to
zero on their products.

Had they then been available a couple of weeks back I would have one but
they were running about 12++++ weeks wait for them.

When I asked why, I was told "well, if you want the most advanced, sought
after radio in the world today" you just have to wait for it.

I then considered a Jupiter but they were not avail either. I did some
calling around to the various dealers about a used one but I could not find
a single dealer that would even take one on trade, much less resell one.
Without one single exception they ALL told me that if you buy one be
prepared to take it to the grave with you because you will never trade it
off to anyone but Ten Tec.

With that in mind, a friend lo0aned me a Jupiter for a few days to try out
and I am glad he did. It is a pure piece of junk.

It looks like, acts like and feels like as well as performs like something a
12 year old Boy scout would build for a merit badge project from a kit.
Very similar to some of the MFJ and old Heath stuff.

It is just so far in the past that I can't believe they could even get FCC
acceptance....

Their attitude is what I have always believed helped kill Collins in the Ham
market. Back when Collins was screaming, we have the most advanced radios in
the world and you had better buy ours, Trio Kenwood snuck in the TS 520 and
the rest of the story is history. This was a Pearl Harbor from which there
was no recovery. Icom, Kenwood and Yaesu have advanced so far that Ten-Tec,
Collins and the like could never catch up if they worked 80 hours a day 600
hours a week.

Yes, I am one of the "old timers" who hated foreign for years but over the
last several years, I have Icom, Kenwood and Yaesu ham gear and instead of
the big 3 in cars, I drive Hyundai Santa Fe's. Why?, quality and value and
they fill my needs nicely.

The drugs talking? , no my head just got cleared out a little bit and reset.

I have to agree with your logic Dave. Mine is a little different. I cannot
see any reason to upgrade from my IC 765. Not to throw gas on the fire,
but, pick a contest day ... anyone here in the US. Put a 765 on the table
with say any of the newer Icoms (I don't want to pick on any particular
one). Add a TenTec Jupiter ... then decide which one you think is better.
Could be a VERY hard choice depending what your operating style is and what
you like.

73, Mike
