[ICOM] New Pro III - Hold On Guys!

I don't think so, Mike. If one has had a few hours operating the digital
rigs I believe that the comparison will be clear.

I have my vintage mint 765 sitting on the desk next to my PRO2 and 746PRO.
The 765 has only one advantage over either PRO that I can find: better QSK.
The filters are much worse both in shape factor and infinite rejection. The
passband ripple is especially poor compared to the DSP filters. I have
installed the best Icom 500 and 250 Hz filters.

I have made filter comparisons, etc. with the Jupiter and, again, no sale.
The PROs are far better radios as they should be considering the price
differential.

Bottom line: I operated with the 765 from 1990 until about 1998 or so when I
got my first PRO. For my CW operations and occasional PSK31 and very
occasional SSB, there is no comparison - the PROs have it.

The 765 is a great radio with a great front end, etc. I have kept it over
the years despite some tempting offers to buy. I imagine that it will show
up in my estate sale. But, it is no PRO . . . and even as a non-DSP radio it
is far ahead of the Jupiter in every respect.

With regard to Dave's note, I and others have found the PRO2 to be markedly
better in several areas than the PRO. I used both, side by side, for about a
year. The differences are slight in some areas and major in others. With the
PRO, I could not operate when my neighboring contest station a mile away
fired up. With the PRO2 I can operate within a few kHz of his 1500+ watt
signal.

Incidentally, the 746PRO is 95% of the PRO2's performance and possibly a
little better in some areas. The DSP filters have a slightly better shape
factor and better ultimate rejection.
