[ICOM] Older Icoms with a rigblaster

John,
On the 730 and 740, you must use the compressor, which
goes against all the advice you will ever see
regarding operating the soundcard digital modes. The
reason it is OK in this application is that when the
audio drive to the rig is marginal, the compressor is
serving merely as a preamplifier, as it's compression
threshold has not yet been reached. Even with that,
you will still need to have almost everything else set
up high, including the Windows audio sliders and the
rig's mike gain control. I have been doing this for a
long time with the 740 and it works very well. PSK IMD
performance is great if everything is set up and
adjusted properly.
On the receive side, I get the pre-controlled AF
output from the rig's 24-pin molex connector on the
rear apron. Check your manual for pinout, they are all
the same. Once a harness is made up to use this
output, it will work on any older ICOM rig that uses
the 24-pin molex "Rear ACC" connector.
I have used my digital modes harness (with the 24-pin
Molex and 8-pin mike interface) on all my ICOM rigs,
including the 730, 740, 745, and 751A. It will also
work for the 761 as well.
