[ICOM] Older Icoms with a rigblaster

I am looking at hooking up my Icom 740 with a
rigblaster for the digital modes, and wonder if anyone
has used an older Icom in this way.  The problem I am
wondering about is how these older Icoms required a
preamp in the microphone.  Does this cause problems
when trying to send digital modes through the mic
jack?  Do any modifications need to be done?  

ALso, is there a way to hook up a soundcard interface
through the ACC jacks on the back of these radios.  I
think the 740 uses a 16 pin square plug, or something
like that.
