[ICOM] IC-2SAT help needed

Reed,

Most likely its the DC Jack causing the problem or a missing ground. The DC
jack is also a switch that connects or disconnects the battery. Many times
the little leaf breaks off from use and the battery never is reconnected.
Another thing that used to happen was when you applied power you might drag
the power connector across the DC Jack and touch the ear phone jack. This
would cause a ground trace under the DC jack to open and you would not
operate from battery. Lastly the PRT unit, about all I remember with that
was recharging troubles, have not looked at one for a while, bit it does
have an effect upon battery operation. During my time supporting the 2SAT
this trouble was almost always one of the first 2 problems.

A quick test was to do an ohmmeter check between the Negative and "E"
terminal on the radio bottom with no connector inserted into the DC Jack.
The ohmmeter should show a short. When there is a connector inserted into
the DC Jack the ohmmeter will show open or more ohms than with the DC Jack
being unused.
