I own a IC706MKII and an FT857. I do a lot of portable
and maritime ops. The good thing about the 706 is that
it is very rugged and very user friendly. My 857 has a
great receiver and draws less power. Both of these are
great radios and I love'em both. It ultimately boils
down to operator preferences.
