Dave,
No, no, no, no relay needed. The Alpha 78 has 23VDC on the keying line
and draws 3mA. Look at the Alpha web site which says exactly the same
thing.

A non-inductive 23V open circuit and 3 mA short circuit load will not
hurt any reed relay.
