REA -- I got my BRAND NEW Hy-Gain TH-6 .. via REA! I went picked it up,
my XYL gave me a major whuppin' .. it came from AEA .. with the CHARGE card
from them .. which meant, I got ANOTHER whuppin . shucks, that was 40+ years
ago, and I am still gettin' "whuppins" .. HIHIHI .. That antenna was
delivered via REA .. I went to Eureka, CA, train station (way cheaper than
having it delivered for another 5 bux, and then having the XYL know what I
was up to!)
and picked it up --- and, through the years, got more "gear" the same way ..
like, Galaxy, Sideband Engineers, etc...
then the trains quit, hearabout.. ahh, well...When ICOM wanted to be a major
player in the USofA, they also included the Marine Band gear... etc...
Same era, old Gordy ..WB6NOA -- he was movin' up in the world .. he became
the Representative for Standard Radio .. My company became a dealer for them
too .. including biz band, marine, and ham .. the company (Standard) was
NOT doing a wonderful job of providing 2-Way radios at that time, BUT ..
NEITHER was ICOM-INOUE!~ The ICOM radios were .. well, let's say ..
"interesting" ... What an expensive 2m RIG .-- the 21 .. w/ VFO .. but ..
ONLY receive, on the VFO .. interesting, as I done said .. the 21 hadda have
xtals. Ahhh well . `nuf of this .. cheers, folks .. es .. 73 ... just one,
nobody needs more than one "best regards" !!!!!!! AA6DX---- Original

Bill, my very first ham receiver, with which I learned the code, arrived via
REA in 1945! It was a Hallicrafters S20-R. In my eyes it was the greatest
radio in the world! Cost $60 plus a buck or two shipping . . .

My Elmer W5QN had a brand new National HRO-5TA1. with the noise limiter; I
quickly learned that my S-20R was a nice little radio, but no HRO!

Later I acquired the HRO from Bill and used it for several years - sure wish
I had both of them back now!
