Hi Mark and all,

Darn I am glad to hear someone else call the Collins KWM 380 a
disappointment. Here I thought I was the only one in the world from some of
the email that I have received of late from some of the Collins people..

I did some station configuration changes yesterday ( I will cover that
later ) and after hooking everything back up I decided to run a test
between the KWM 380 and my very vintage IC 701 Icom on receive. The Icom is
stock and untouched as I was the second person to ever take it out of the
orig. box.

On receive, it blew the 380 out of the water. I could hear S 1 signals on
the 701 perfectly and the 380 did not even know they were there because of
the noise floor.

i spoke with the Japanese engineer ( guard hi) from icom.. he was hovering
(guarding) the 7800.. it is one gigantic piece of equip.. looked
significantly bigger than the 775dsp.. when asked if it will sticker
around $8k.. he said "no higher... around $10k" it really is a
beautiful
thing to behold... ( excuse me christmas story) paul w8jn
