Well first of all... The Drake RF decks were excellent... The L7 was
good, and the L4B was even better... The power supply was the weakest
link...

As for always relying on the OEM... "matching" doesn't mean a thing
(except the aesthetics)... Sometimes the OEM accessory is good (the SM20
and SM8 are excellent mics)... But the SM6/SM5 are also "matching"
mics... And not so good. That kind of thinking is great for the OEM's
and dealers (I used to be one) but you pass up on some excellent
opportunities to improve your station. Heil mics are excellent, for
example, if you have Yaesu or Kenwood... Icom used to be a bit of a
problem due to the drive issue... But not an issue with the newer rigs.
One example... When I was selling Yaesu gear about 15 years ago... The
"matching" Yaesu mike was probably the worst choice!

BTW, the mics in the station here are the SM20 and SM8... But the audio
is just as good with my Heil proset!

On the other hand... The customer is always right ;-)
