Subject: [Icom] ICOM IC 245

Hello Group!

I'm about to aquire an IC 245 that has a known problem. The PLL has a
locking
problem and has trouble locking above 145mhz. Anyone have this sort of
trouble before with an IC 245? What components were the culprits for causing
this sort of malifunction?

Thanks and 73,

Bob

Hi,
bought new 245E (European model) around 1976 (my first 2m rig). Worked fine
and still
in use (!! :)) ). But I had to resolder all the "crumpy" feedthroughs
througout the rig.
Terrible job. Especially PLL-unit was the heart of the problems. Late models
had a row-connector
in PLL-unit, mine did not. Only feedthrough capacitors and wires soldered
directly
to them. I did also some vco-sideband noise improvements. Also added 100 Hz
display
using unused fm-version mic connector. 100Hz binary information is available
directly
from the pll-unit. There are some pictures of the rig at www.mods.dk
illustrating
100Hz display.

Go for it and prepare to resolder feedthroughs.
