[Icom] Intermittent problem

First of all, thanks to everyone for the great response to my original post.
I will investigate the connector first. I have a CAT-5 connector kit and
can, worst case, snip the connector and replace it. From the concensus, it
sounds like the most likely suspect.
I wanted to respond to Kurt's problems too. Kurt, I had exactly the same
problem when I installed my 706 in the car. I routed both +/- from the
engine compartment and put the radio under the passenger seat. I have a
Husler on a 4-mag mount for HF and the rig kept shutting down as you
described. It turned out all I had to do, as Dan suggested, is to tie a
short heavy ground from the radio chassis to the car frame. Since then, it's
been recommended to me to just run the + lead from the battery and let the
radio get both it's negative-side power and radio ground from the car frame
where it's mounted.
I hope this helps.
