Hi Kurt, all,
It is difficult, I had the problem occur on a return leg of a trip to NC
from WI. Everything worked great on the way down. The only thing I did,
every night at motels was remove the hamstick9quick disconnects) and bring
the radio in the room with me. Never moved the mount or any
wiring. Nothing on the installation was changed, SWR was checked on a
outboard meter. The 706 head is mounted on top of the dash on an alum
angle. The wiring goes across the dash and into the window post trim, up
the post and across the driver door inside the header trim, down the post
between the front/back doors and under the driver seat to the 706
body. The first change I am going to try is moving that wiring down from
the dash and across the door under the threshold instead of across the
header trim. The power comes direct from the battery, starting with fuses,
both +/- and comes in the passenger side at the far right side of the
firewall, into the space behind the foot kick panel, then under the door
threshold to the area under the passenger seat. I connect with a massive
connector that is good for at least 50 amps and is clean. It is a positive
connection! There is about 3' extra of all wiring to allow moving the unit
to the front seat if I want.
The ant system is a 3 magnet mount with Hamsticks for 10/15/40. I didn't
try the forty but the problem was there on 10/15. It had been used
without problems for 3 years before I got the Heil set.
I have talked to several people, on the bands and in person, that have had
this same problem. It only occurs with some heil or other type headset
boom mic combos. One guy, in NC, showed me all the coils in his 706 and
mic wiring he had done to eliminate it. I tried several different coils
but had no success at that time. Granted I was on the road, in NC on my
way back to WI and didn't spend the time I should have on it.
Now that it is warmer, I plan on putting everything in and trying to
isolate the problem. Also, I sent an e-mail to Heil and got an immediate
reply from Bob to call him on Monday to see if we can figure it out:<}
