Thanks guys for your inputs.
First of all, I know Heil HC-5 (or HC-4) element does not fit to Icom
generally, and Heil has an IC element for Icom radios. However, I already
have a Proset + HC-5 and it works OK with my FT1000MP, or even my
(relatively) old IC765. I do not want to spend $$$ for 706, which is just my
back up, or vacation radio.
First thing I did was to insert a small cap to cut the DC in series with the
element.
Thanks to Ed, K1EP, I simply forgot it. Then my HC-5 gave some output to
706, but the moduration is still low.
Then, British trick which I found on Internet (www.qsl.net/g0fvi). This
trick, published in RadCom July 1999, is to adjust ALC pot to give some more
power. In 706mkII, the pot is named R511. I turned it to almost maximum
position, and 706 gives more power.
With HC-5 element, 706mkII still needs more mic input, but it is so far
acceptable, After this adjustment, 706mkII gives full power with mic gain
=10 and comp=ON.
I think I may need an extra amp between HC-5 and 706. However I try to use
it as it is for the time being.
Thanks guys.
