[Icom] Summary of 60 Meter Performance of IC-765 (long)

It has to be a Gentleman's Agreement and some common sense, David. To stay
within the channel, our suppressed carrier indicating dials have to be set
on the lower channel edge "somewhere." Our English cousins use an offset
of -1500 Hz and ARRL is recommending the same. Makes sense as long as
everyone tries to do the same. So the dial frequency *is* virtually set at
1500 Hz below the specified center frequency for each channel. I don't know
from firsthand experience but I am told this is the most common method for
designating frequency in the military.
Where we are in a world of hurt is the fact that many radios simply have
neither the dial accuracy or stability to ensure that the entire sideband
remains within the channel. As my example tried to show, a typical 2.4 kHz
sideband filter setup produces an upper limit of 2910 Hz and a lower limit
of 205 Hz. The dial doesn't have to be off very far to scoot one side or the
other of that sideband into enemy territory.
Fortunately, I have no intention or interest in operating 60 meters, but I
would hate for ham radio to get a black eye over it.
