Hi Dave,

Your friend could try switching VFO's by pressing the [CHANGE] key to the
left of the numeric keypad. This will determine whether one of the two
synthesisers has failed. Such a failure would kill both receive and
transmit.

If switching VFO's via the [CHANGE] key does not bring the receiver back to
life, there may be a component failure in the RF or IF signal path. He could
try switching the preamps and attenuator in and out. Also, is he seeing
signals on the Spectrum Scope? If yes, then the failure is further down the
main IF chain, or in the DSP area. In any event, the radio will need to go
in for warranty repair.

The main Icom service centre is in Bellevue WA. 1-800-USA-ICOM. The Icom
website gives the locations of service shops. The factory service centre is
in Bellevue WA.

Subject: [Icom] Dead RX IC756PRO2

A friend of mine - a Radio Officer on a container ship from KH6 to Long
Beach, CA - bought a Ic-756PRO2 - he's only used it to receive with.

At first the radio worked fine, but recently it won't receive.
He gets broadband hiss and nothing else.

I mentioned the setup for the Antenna Jacks - and he says he knows about
this and this isn't the problem. I also mentioned that the TRANSMIT button
might have been accidentally pushed - but that wouldn't be the problem
because he is hearing broadband noise (very weak).

Any suggestions for me to relay him? He will be in port for two days.

Also anyone have the shipping address and phone number for ICOM? Or is
there a service facility near Los Angles/Long Beach CA?

Best Wishes,

David Ring
