[Icom] Icom re-packs?

I recently purchased a "Brand New" AH-4 from an individual via an
on-line advertisement. She claimed she bought the tuner new and never
used it.
The tuner arrived in the original box with accessories, but without
warranty card and with PL-259 installed on one end of the coax. The
other PL-259 had been installed, but had been cut off and was laying
in the box. On the bottom of the tuner, someone had scratched an "A"
in front of the serial number, and there was a green tag that read
"Repack 'A', 90 day warranty".
Obviously this was not a "Brand New" unit. I called Icom and was told
that items that are used by Icom as demos at hamfests, etc will be
returned for a checkout and marked as above. They are then sold as a
repack unit with the 90 day warranty. They stressed that this was not
a refurbished unit - it had not been sold as new, failed, and been
returned for repair and resale.
My AH-4 looked new and functioned fine. The ham I bought it from has
not been licensed for very long, and I did not feel that there was an
intent to deceive so much as a lack of knowledge and experience. In
this case it wasn't worth a hassle with the seller over what I
received vs what I thought I was buying.
I paid $200 for the unit, which was a good price for a "Brand New"
AH-4, but I don't know what a Repack would sell for. At this point,
it is a moot subject as I have the tuner I wanted and it works just
fine. No warranty, though.
Maybe this will shed some light on the topic...
