I think you left out:

The sudden, substantial drop in checking balance and/or increase in credit
card debt, and
The feeling that putting the $ 2,500+ into an antenna system would have
yielded more station improvement

The "756" effect applies to the entire series of ICOM radios.  It is not an
effect on the radio, but rather on the "first-time" 756 series user. 
This effect is characterized by; 
(1) Slack-jawed amazement. 
(2) Delight of hidden feature discovery. 
(3) A sense of awe in the radios performance. 
(4) Overwhelming feeling of pride, in owning one. 
(5) Slight feeling of pity for all other radios. 
(6) Great and building feeling of power and authority, in having the most
powerful receiving tools available.
