I did this a long time ago. I cut the cable near the rig and install CHEAP 
molex 2 pin 30A connectors.  I use the same connector on all 12V stuff so I 
can switch from the shack to car to truck to camp trailer.  Same with HT, 
CD player, TV etc.  12V Universal power to all.

BTW, If I were to do it now, I would use those polarized slip 20amp 
connectors.  YMMV
