Hello Dean and all,
If it is a lost cause, I won't tear it up, I will just use it to support
the other 751A, 761 and 765 that I have. I learned my lesson on selling
items from a parts rig several years ago.
I had a Drake TR7A that I had sold and UPS damaged the rig beyond feasible
repair on the front panel and the cabinet so I refunded the money and
turned in a claim.
Well, 3" of foam all around and double boxed was not "good packing" per UPS
and they reduced the claim by 50% and then I bought the rig as salvage for
150.00 hoping to recover somewhat.
Well, I sold several of the major parts and did recover what I had lost
initially. Almost a year later, the guy that bought the PA unit called and
said that it had failed and it failed because of the rig damage a year ago
and wanted his money back. I balked at that and did not refund the $$
since it had worked for a year ok.
I got bad mouthed on several nets and reflectors for a long time over it.
Just was not worth it.
I still think I can get it going but if not, maybe someone will want to
trade me something for it that I can use and try their luck at it. I know
I have bought tube rigs in the past that could not be fixed and usually had
them going in a short time.
On another note, I should be having a couple of brand new PS 125 power
supplies available shortly that are surplus to my needs. They will be the
European models with the 2 wire power cords, should someone be interested..

I would bet that if u choose to offer parts from it for salvage that the
first part you sell will subsequently get u the response, "I bought that
Icxx4 from you for my IC781. Now the damn rig doesn't put out any power at
all!!!" The guy will then proceed to bad mouth you on every ham forum and
may even go so far as to start an "I hate Bill Diamond, don't buy anything
from him ever" news group.
However you will end up knowing what the bad part was and replacing the
Icxx4, will make your 'parts rig' 781 a fine, functional rig. Of course,
no one will talk to you on the air because of your bad rep!
<G> tongue in cheek, of course! No good deed goes unpunished!
