For what it's worth. Many years ago when I used to have mobile, to help
locate auto generated noise I used a length of coax long enough to reach
from the antenna to anywhere on the car. I left about one inch of center
conductor protrude, taped it as to not come in contact with + side of
battery. I then used it as a probe at various suspected noise generators.
With the receiver turned on, it was simple to hear noise increase as I got
close to noise source.
