Mike, on my IC-T22a, the ring terminal is 3.5V, the tip is MIC and the
barrel is ground.  Using a two conductor plug would short the 3.5V to
ground.
The speaker's center conductor is "remote", the tip is speaker + and the
barrel is spkr -.
