[Icom] IC-V8 mic connector

I just bought an IC-V8 HT. Being cheap I bought an MJF-295I
speaker mic rather than the Icom model. The MJF only has a 2
conductor mic plug while the Icom has a 3 conductor plug. The
guy that sold me the radio said not to worry, but the MJF mic
only lasted a day before keying up the radio without my
permission and then refusing to key the radio at all. I'm
currently using a Motorola FRS speaker mic which also has a 2
conductor mic plug and it is working fine so far.

What is on the ring terminal of the mic jack? Am I going to
damage the radio by shorting the ring to the sleeve by using a 2
conductor plug?

Is there a schematic of the mic and speaker jacks on the web
somewhere and why doesn't Icom include a schematic in the
manual?

Thanks,
