Hi,
Japanese domestic radio is little different from U.S. model. Model no. 
differs, manual is in
Japanese, etc. Price is just about same.  If you really want to get one 
from JA land,  you
can personally shop at Akihabara or ask one of your JA ham buddy to get 
one and ship it
to you. I have done it few times in the past. I understand basic 
Japanese which may be a
plus for me. I doubt Icom U.S. will honor the JA warranty tho.
