Pete, I own a 756PRO and a 756PROII. I have never tried the broadcast
bands so I cannot comment on your first problem, but my 756PRO is at Icom
at this time for the second problem. I did some measurements and found
that after operating for a period time the display "grass" or noise floor
sunk out of sight. At the same time the S meter readings dropped by about
5 "S"units and the displayed signals dropped about an equal amount.. Prior
to shipping it to Icom I ran some tests with an HP signal generator into
the Pro and the Pro II when the Pro was acting up.. everything indicated
about a 5 S unit drop.. oddly enough the received signals seemed to decode
properly and I could not really say the receiver had declined in actual
sensitivity. All my operation is in digital modes so I cannot comment on
SSB changes.. The only other observation I made of the problem was that
after a month of observation the display seemed to change sooner after
turning it on and finally became constant. I figured at that point it
would be easy for Icom to check out and I shipped it to them.
If I learn anything from Icom in the next few days, I will post it to the
reflector..
