Bill, while waiting for the Q14 replacement, stick in a metal 2N2222 and it
will suffice to keep you on the air. When I had a similar problem with the
765 I did that and it was almost a year before I remembered to replace it
with the proper Icom unit. At no time could I detect any difference in
performance.
BTW, in the 765 there are several mods required to lessen the likelihood of
destroying Q14 due to some sequencing problems, etc. I do not know if the
761 is prone to the same ills, but I would suspect so. Check with Adam,
VA7OJ . . .
