I have acquired a great 1999 Suburban LT and would like to install my
706MKIIG in it as attractively and functionally as possible. I will likely
get the High Sierra screwdriver antenna. I would appreciate any help,
especially from anyone that has done the same things with a Suburban.
1. Known issues/caveats?
2. Will a vertical antenna mounted via the towing hitch allow the cargo
doors to clear when opening? I can't/won't mount it on the top - how much
would a side mount help the groundplane?
In this vehicle, the center console does -not- extend all the way to the
dash like the newer design. This leaves a nice open area over a flat center
"hump". There would be room to mount the entire radio here instead of
mounting only the control head. OF course, mounting only the control head
on the center console would allow easy ergonomic reach of the knobs/buttons,
and tuning could be done from a natural position. I would also like to be
able to easily remove the radio and bring it back to the house for contest
weekends! Any and all comments welcomed - You can decide whether to post to
the whole list or send privately!
THANKS! - John (WA9ALS)
