[Icom] 2 meter radios and rf overload

Dan,
I am in Southern California where spurious emissions like pager mixes are
plentifull. We are fortunate to have alot of hams with alot of different ham
transceivers and the current consensus is that the Kenwood TM-D700A 2m/440Mhz
transceiver is one of the most intermod resistant. Icom mobiles have been
historically easily overwhelmed with the pager mixes and the Yaesu's are hit and
miss, sometimes they don't squalk at all and sometimes they squalk a little when
in a known noisy RF spot. I too have a 706MKIIG, actually 2 of them, and I agree
that they are a bit deaf and poorly filtered however, the TM-D700 works quite
well and seems to hear very well in this area. Don't stop with the radio though,
the antenna can play a big roll in your radio's performance. In our hilly
terrain we find quarter wave verticles with there high radiation angle work just
fine but in more flat terratin a longer wavelength gain antenna works better.
73,
