The main problem with the 245 was the feedthroughs in the PLL circuit board.
Instead of plated through holes, Icom used pieces of feedthrough wire to
connect traces on either side of the PCB. As the radio aged, these
connections became intermittent and the PLL would not stay locked up. Icom
had a service bulletin showing how to place insulated jumper wires from one
point on the PCB to another to cure the problem. I had a 245 and suffered
through all of these problems and, at one time, had copies of all these "how
to" fixes. When the rig worked, it was a very good radio. I am surprised at
one of the comments about the poor receive. Every Icom of that era that I
owned had excellent receivers with great sensitivity and intermod rejection.
