I got one brand new, factory sealed last summer.
It works great, but shows its' age.
You need to keep 12 volts on it as it does not have battery backup.
I think there is an external 12 volt line to do that as well.
You also need the external gadget to directly enter frequency. 
 Otherwise, there is a LOT
of dial spinning to get from one end of the band to another.
There is another external gadget that can be used to interface with 
external stuff...amp switching, alc, 1/4 inch key jack etc.
I talked to a friend of mine about it, and it was a hot topic of 
discussion in the early '80s.
Fixing it, that is.
It was common knowledge that the thing had a problem. I think it had to 
do with dissimilar metals used for connectors. Or something about 
connectors.
Mine gets plugged in every couple of months, but mostly lives on a shelf.
