I have an answer to your first question. I have a MKII
(almost 4 years old) which runs the same way as you
mentioned. It was manufactured that way and I wouldnt
recommend modifing the thermal sensor circuitry which
regulates the fan speed. It could be a bit irritating
at times, but then the radio is happy! ;-) So let it
be that way.
I have found out lately that by reducing the
intensity/brightness of the LCD, the fan comes on less
often. That is the only way I can think of.
