Hi Folks,
In ref: to mobile HF installations. These problems are the exact reason that I gave up mobile HF operation in about 1957, just too much hassle.
A note however, if you check the owners manual on almost every vehicle made since 1985 there will be a warning not to use radio equipment in the vehicle due to possible damage to the various systems.
My Lincoln Cont. has a warning in bold print that radios will dmage the various computer systems in the car and it will not be covered by warr. I even called Lincoln customer care about it and they said yes, it will destroy several of the computers.
That is why is I only use a cell phone. An interesting note on cell phones. I have a new Rascal electic scooter and there is a similar warning about cell phones while riding on it. Just for the heck of it, I tried the cell phone while riding on it and yeppers, it stopped running and the auto brakes came on. It just needed to be reset with the key switch. I believe them.

how you power the ham radio (directly from the battery, right?) and how
things like hood, exhaust pipe, trunk lid, et cetera are grounded to the
chassis.

I'm looking at buying a new rig...maybe Subaru (Alaska) but haven't
heard if anyone has had noise problems with them. Would be nice to find
out which rigs are the noisy ones before you buy them.
